A barcode scanner for every barcode you meet
QR Code Scan Kit is also a barcode scanner: it reads product barcodes (EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E), ISBN on books, shipping and stock codes (Code 128, ITF-14) and 2D codes such as Data Matrix, PDF417 and Aztec. For product barcodes it checks the check digit and shows the product when it is listed.
- 01
Point the camera at the barcode
Hold the phone so the whole barcode fits inside the frame; it reads sideways too.
- 02
See what it is
The card shows the format, the number and, for shop barcodes, whether the check digit is right.
- 03
See the product
When the product is listed in Open Food Facts or Open Beauty Facts, its name and photo appear. If not, the card says which country's GS1 office issued the number.
16 barcode formats
Micro QR, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, ISBN, Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, ITF, ITF-14, Codabar, GS1 DataBar, Data Matrix, PDF417 and Aztec, plus QR codes.
Check digit shown
Shop barcodes end in a check digit. The card shows it, and an amber note appears when a hidden digit had to be filled in from the printed numbers.
Tickets and boarding passes
PDF417 and Aztec codes on tickets and boarding passes show the text they hold.
Make barcodes too
The Create tab makes EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 128, ITF-14, Data Matrix and 8 more formats, with the check digit added for you.
- A barcode is only a number: names and photos come from public product databases, so not every product is found.
- It doesn't look up prices, allergens or halal status.
What can a barcode tell you?
The number itself tells you its type, whether the check digit is right and which country's GS1 office issued the company number (not where the product was made). The product name lives in databases such as Open Food Facts.
What's the difference between a QR code and a barcode?
A barcode stores a short number in lines you read from one side; a QR code is a square that holds much more, like a whole web address or Wi-Fi details. QR Code Scan Kit reads both.
Can it scan a barcode from a photo?
Yes. Tap Photos in the scanner and pick the picture; every barcode and QR code in it is read on the phone.
